Welcome New Year!
It seems that sooooo much has happened since this time last year.  Life is wonderful!  Thank you for visiting DownsDaily!
Last year this time I was pregnant and my doctor had ordered me to bedrest.  The only ‘privilege’ that came along with this bedrest was that I could use the bathroom.
So no blog posting was allowed.

Surprises & Dazzling Moments!

I am always amazed when others seem shocked because they witness Isaac doing the most simple things.
There was a time when I would feel a bit angry…angry because folks just seemed to expect so little.
These days I am mostly annoyed…and sometimes amazed.
I am most annoyed when this ‘amazement’ and ‘shock’ comes from educators.  I am a little disappointed when it comes from other parents.

Family Blessings

A few days ago our family traveled down south to visit family.  I got to see my grandmother…who is more like a mother to me.  I spent my entire life growing up underneath her roof.  Right now my grandma is is a nursing home.  She has Alzheimer’s disease.  People always ask me, ” Does she still remember you?”  I believe that she does.  I also believe that Alzheimer’s is a very cruel disease.

Neuroscience Research-Down Syndrome

There is MORE New research suggesting that brains can and do heal!
That’s a good thing…because here in Indiana, it’s okay to ride a motorcycle without a helmet!
For some reason, the state of South Carolina has a disproportionate number of younger people who have strokes.  This statistic puts the University of South Carolina on the cusp of new research regarding strokes.  The university is currently following many patients who have been stroke victims…and some of the results have been released in a paper published in the Journal …

Down Syndrome & Special Needs Students

children at bus stop
Here in our neighborhood elementary school, Isaac is the first little boy with Down syndrome to be allowed to be in the classroom with other children his age.
The vast majority of children with Down syndrome are sent to a different school.  The school is a different elementary school inside the district.  They spend their school days in collected in a classroom that is away from the regular children.
Isaac had unique learning needs.  He has his own unique learning style.
But so every human being!
Right now one of the …
