I am always amazed when others seem shocked because they witness Isaac doing the most simple things.
There was a time when I would feel a bit angry…angry because folks just seemed to expect so little.
These days I am mostly annoyed…and sometimes amazed.
I am most annoyed when this ‘amazement’ and ‘shock’ comes from educators. I am a little disappointed when it comes from other parents.
Let me give you an example of what I mean…we actually had surprising and dazzling moment’ happen today.
Here is what happened.

Tonight I spent some time helping my cousin with getting appropriate placement for her son. The school only has two classrooms for third-graders, one class is a general setting.
The other class is a special education setting. She has twin boys and prefers that the boys are in separate classrooms…since they have . of course, been competing since birth.

Well, Isaac, my second-born has been diagnosed with the most common type of Down syndrome …and I was always told that there have been NO genetic reasons found for why this type of trisomy occurs.
The vast majority of total babies born with Down syndrome are born to mothers younger than 35 years. But the percentage of babies born to women older …

Well, it was fun while it lasted! the kids got their bouncy house earlier this year for Isaac and Troy’s birthday party.
Our original party idea was to go to the local party bounce house. I choose to go ahead and purchase it since it would cost much more to rent the place for a couple of hours.
They have had an absolute ball bouncing and flipping in the months that have passed since then.
Today the house was busted…

Today one of my friends posted a comment on Facebook regarding her son with down syndrome and his intuition.
She wanted to know if other down syndrome parents had the same experience.
Many parents spoke up. Here are some of the responses:
“YES YES YES. My dgtr had always had a sense of spirit with people. At 16 she still does. Its made it hard with one of her grandparents b/c she even at just a few months old could tell the spirit was not right (still isn’t) she wouldn’t …

For one thing, your hormones are a changing.
There are also many other things that can lead to having strong feelings and emotions during pregnancy.
The truth is that growing a life and bringing a baby into the world is a very powerful and sacred endeavor. It is completely natural to think things through… and to sometimes be a little afraid.

There are tests that definitively test for Down syndrome during early pregnancy. The definitive test is invasive. They can be performed during the first trimester.
During the first trimester, or first 3 months of a pregnancy, the definitive option is called CVS, which stands for chorionic villi sampling. A needle is inserted and material called chorionic villi is removed and tested. This villi testing will give exact information about the DNa of a developing embryo.
